Google Chrome
Google Chrome is an open source web browser develped by Google. It will released today. It is named after the user interface frame of the web browswer.’chrome’. The software architecture is engineerned from the scratch so that it support the latest applications on the web. The chrome has a rendering engine called webkit. It implement the sandboxing to isolate multiple running web applications simoultaniously. It used V8 a javascript virtual machine to support optimized management of of contents.
Security
If you take a look
at security scenario, malware and pishing now a days are financially driven. Reason is simple there is increase in the online banking and commerce. Chrome has the concept called ‘sandboxing’ which means isolated processes of each tab, preventing the access to other files and memory areas. Reading the key log details, tracking mouse movements, or starting a new file execution through other tabs can be prevented. Chrome maintain a separate memory space for each thread just as in the modern operating systems process management system works.
Phishing is the major concern in the financial world. Google keeps an eye on the phishing sites, malwares and harful sites. It is automatically updated to the browswer and you will get proper warnings.
'‘Incognito’ is the type of tab, which will hide the browsing details and wipe out the cookies after you close it. So you can browse with the peace of mind as no one is watching.
Once you close t
he website, all its data structure, its process and the cookies will be deleted. Google has a chart at the bottom showing the activities of each tab even the add-in to the browser. So you can keep an eye who is doing what. Whether they are doing whatever is being told or more than that.
Interactivity
Chrome has multi tab interface. Google say each tab will work as a isolated process. Once you close the process is closed and memory management will be a secure affair.
Innovations
Chrome uses more powerful java script engine which isolate each thread, prevent crashing into each others areas. V8 is virtual machine for JavaScript. Google says earlier virtual machines for the JavaScript are just for small stuffs and cant handle the applications like online gaming and online banking. So they started with scratch to write a virtual machine effectively against big online applications. They have introduced hidden class transmissions, dynamic optimizations for the objects wh
ich have same properties. The V8 has precise garbage collection method, which better use the memory use and objects and pointer management.
'WebKit' is rendering engine that Google has used in the Chrome. Rendering engine is the piece of software that arranges to display the pictures on the browser. WebKit belongs to Android (the mobile development platform from Google). I think they effectively used this as it meant for mobile devices which have few resources hence utilized them effectively. Hence a best decision to use it in the chrome.
Google has made searching inside the cached pages available through browser. When you open a new tab it will show you thumbnail of nine most visited pages in your browsing history. Those pages are the most probable one where you want to go. No need to say there is the address bar you can type the
address and open a new website which is not there in those nine websites.
The frames and look of the browser can disappear if you open a web based application because Google wants to reduce the barrier between you and work. Once the browser frames are not there application will be in focus and you can directly work with the application.
Making and Testing
For Google making of this browser was not simple. Testing is major challenge. As Google has millions of pages stored. Google has tested the browser with all those pages with the massive infrastructure that Google has. Google says they have tested it effectively even though 100 % is not possible.
User InterfaceAs far as User interface is concerned you can open multiple web pages using the tabs but tabs here will be above the web address and you can take tab away from one window to other. Each tab has its own control and URL.
Popup if any will be there inside the boundary of the tab until you move them out.
Google has two goals with chrome. It will be as better for developers as it is for the users. Let we see how it will be when it will be realized today i.e. Tuesday.
